ICM Core Network Services is a unit performing networking services for University of Warsaw departments and other academic units connected to the UW core network. It also functions as a coordinator and adviser in the scope of IT projects and investment, especially those related to the use of networking techniques.
Among others, ICM Core Network Services performs:
- maintenance of UW core network
- continuous service support
- external connectivity with other operators as well as the Internet
- core network expansion
- project coordination (i.e. UW Mail, CUS, CAS and others)
Apart from the above mentioned tasks, we deal with a wide range of accompanying services, such as IP addressing (LIR), DNS and security related issues.
Our top priority is to provide reliable network connectivity to associated departments, thus providing proper conditions for conducting, academic research, executing modern teaching procedures and supporting nationwide, as well as international academic cooperation.
ICM Core Network Services is a part of ICM UW technical department. At first, the group dealt exclusively with supporting the connection of ICM local area network to the outside world. Later on the scope of activity was extended to supporting the Ochota campus network (“Zgrupowanie Ochota”).
Formally the ICM Core Network Services have been created in autumn of the year 2000, with the purpose to support and develop University of Warsaw core network. The duty was assigned to ICM by UW Government (signed RJM/464/2000 on 07.08.2000). In this way, the unification of academic network management of “Zgrupowanie Krakowskie Przedmieście” and “Zgrupowanie Ochota” has been created.
